Warwick's Blackstone take aim at tonight's grand final

SIX players from Warwick will be hoping to go one better than last year when they head to Brisbane tonight for the grand final in the Queensland Christian Soccer Association over 40s competition.

The Warwick players Bruce Greenaway, Bill Manwaring, Peter Darton, Derek Kane, John Maiore and Steve Gray are part of the Blackstone United team which finished third in the fixture competition. David Burton and Paul Swift from Warwick have also played the occasional game with United this season.

Manwaring's brother Dudley travels from the South Burnett each Friday night to play with the team.

Greenaway said this year's grand final against Bulimba was a replay of last year's decider which Blackstone lost 4-2.

"We have beaten the two toughest teams to make it to the grand final," he said.

The Warwick connection in the Blackstone team is heavily involved in Warwick football with most coaching at junior level. Darton is the Warwick District Football Association president.

The grand final will be at 8.30pm today at Redbank Plains.
