Warwick's golden day out
Race 1: 1.43pm, Olsens Produce Handicap (1350m BM70)
A tricky little race to kick off proceedings at Allman Park.
ISN'T SHE ELEGANT is the interesting runner. She comes into this race after a five-week let up since her last start second at Toowoomba. The mare drops back sharply in distance from 1850m, and has been a costly commodity for punters of late, however I fancy she has the most upside.
SCRAP COPPER ran well at the non-TAB meeting here in June, and is coming off an on-pace victory at Murwilliumbah in lower grades. She should sit handy and prove hard to run past.
LADY MICAELA was sent around as favourite at Ipswich last time out, running on just fairly. If she can find her best, she can figure in the finish.
Sean Teuma: 2-4-6-1
Anthony Collins: 4-3-2-1
Race 2: 2.18pm, PSP Video Happy New Year Handicap (800m Maiden)
Two first starters from the locals create intrigue for the second.
BISMARC trialled impressively in Victoria, before coming to Brisbane and running just fairly on debut at Doomben. If you can forgive that effort in stronger class, the gelding is a good chance of figuring in the finish.
CRAFTY AQUILA has been transferred from Victoria, where the four-year-old has been racing genuinely without breaking the maiden yet. Her second at Dunkeld two runs ago is good enough to win this race.
MY FRIEND ROB has his first start for Lindsay Hatch after racing in North Queensland, and he certainly has the ability to lead them heading into the straight over the short course.
Sean Teuma: 1-4-2-6
Anthony Collins: 1-4-6-2
Race 3: 2.58pm, Freestone Feedlot Handicap (1100m Class 3)
Credentialled horses entered makes this a tough race to judge.
SANDRELLI will probably get back from the wide gate, but his last start second in a ratings 70 at Doomben is superb form to carry into this race. She looks poised to end a run of four consecutive seconds.
JIM 'N' ANDY is another horse that will settle mid-field from the average draw. He stormed home to win a class 2 at Ipswich last preparation, before going down narrowly at Allman Park the next start. Right in this race.
VICTORY DANCE had a tremendous first preparation, resulting in wins at Warwick and the Gold Coast. The four-year-old will win his fair share of races, and it wouldn't surprise me if today was one of those.
Sean Teuma: 4-1-2-6
Anthony Collins: 4-2-1-6
Race 4: 3.38pm, Carey Bros Meats/Hynes Newsagency Plate (1350m Class 1)
The hardest race on the program greets us for the second leg of the quaddie.
DANISH DICTION took good picnic form to Dalby last time out and held his own, running on from beyond midfield to finish fourth. A repeat of that will see him land the spoils.
MISSY ATTITUDE has been running well at Toowoomba of late, including a win and two placings at her last four. The draw is good, and jockey Nozi Tomizawa knows the track well.
BONSEA is coming back after a let-up and a drop back in distance. He should be able to lead from barrier one, and if he can pack them up behind him, he may be able to snatch a winning break in the straight. One to include in the multiples.
Sean Teuma: 5-12-1-9
Anthony Collins: 9-10-13-12
Race 5: 4.18pm, Warwick Daily News Handicap (1500m BM55)
A quality field for a BenchMark 55 are set to greet the judge, with plenty of solid form, particularly among the top weights.
OVER THE VENTURE looks best suited by the class and distance, having been beaten narrowly at Toowomba in a BM65 over the mile. More than happy to stick with him to end a frustrating run of placings.
WICKED TRIOLOGY has every chance to make it a Ben Currie quinella. Jockey Baylee Nothdruft has the option to sit handy if he wants from barrier two, and the mare has been running very well this time in.
MENDELSSOHN brings Chinchilla form into the race, where he won at this same level last time out. His run at Toowoomba prior was superb at long odds, and he is one you don't want to leave out of your multiples.
Sean Teuma: 3-4-2-7
Anthony Collins: 3-4-5-8
Race 6: 4.57pm, Steele's Bakery & Cafe Magic Millions Country Cup Qualifier (1200m Open)
The feature race of the day ends proceedings for the final race at Allman Park for 2017.
ONE GOLDEN DAY is the on top pick here, bringing an impressive resume to the fore. She was dominant when leading at Toowoomba in a small field last start, and was running very well at Ipswich and Doomben prior.
SAIPAN is another horse coming into this race with form on his side, having picked up a win at Dalby a fortnight ago, and Murwillumbah in an open handicap three starts ago. Should get himself into a good position, but the 63kg isn't ideal.
SUGGAN BUGGAN gets into the race with just 54kg and has shown a lot of promise in his six-start career. He has had over a month off since a last start third at the Gold Coast.
Sean Teuma: 2-1-9-6
Anthony Collins: 1-2-6-3
BEST BET: One Golden Day (Race 6 No 2)
We have to be patient, but this horse will be worth it. A highly talented mare who is destined to win better races. Anything over $2 looks to be a good price.
VALUE: Danish Diction (Race 4 No 5)
We're hoping to get more than $7 for this horse, who has been racing well at the picnics, and last start at Dalby.
