Warwick's Kimmince to lead National Cricket League campaign
WARWICK all-rounder Delissa Kimmince will lead the Konica Minolta Queensland Fire tomorrow for the first time as they commence their Women's National Cricket League campaign at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
Kimmince, who has made a successful return from the back injury that forced her out of the WT20 international leg of the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars recent victorious Ashes tour, will take over the captaincy from Jodie Fields. She is expected to concentrate on her batting in the early games after returning from injury.
Fields, the former Southern Stars captain and wicket-keeper, is recovering from shoulder surgery and will miss the first half of the season as she recovers.
Kimmince will lead the Fire in their three WNCL matches in the round commencing tomorrow.
The Fire takes on the Meg Lanning-led Victorian Spirit tomorrow at Allan Border Field, the ACT Canberra Comets on Saturday at Allan Border Field and the Cripps Tasmanian Roar at the Gabba on Monday.
Left-arm pace bowler Kara Sutherland will make her WNCL debut for Queensland tomorrow after making the move from the NSW Breakers during the winter.
All-rounder Taylah Brotherston and pace bowler Georgia Prestwidge, daughter of former Queensland Bulls allrounder Scott, are also in line to add to their career match totals after making debuts in the past two seasons.
The matches will start at 10am and admission is free.
