Warwick RSL best rural club in Qld

WHETHER it’s a friendly smile as you walk in the door, beer pulled to perfection, a tasty meal or community support, the Warwick RSL Services and Citizens’ Memorial Club out-classed the competition to be named Queensland’s Best Club in a Rural Community.

The club was among dozens of award winners at the community club industry annual International Gaming Technology (IGT) and Clubs Queensland Awards for Excellence at Jupiters Casino.

The team travelled to the awards ceremony and cheered emphatically when the announcement was made.

Club manager Jo Schwenke said she was blown away by the success but was not surprised her team was the best in the state.

“For Warwick to receive something of that calibre is terrific,” Mrs Schwenke said.

“We always offer the best service possible for our members and guests but it was a team effort, we all pulled together on this one.

“This is an award the whole community can celebrate.”

Once clubs were nominated, a secret panel of judges toured the state, sampling each club’s atmosphere and community contribution.

“The awards finalists were selected by industry peers from thousands of not-for-profit community clubs across Queensland,” Mrs Schwenke said.

She paid tribute to the efforts of the management team – catering manager Gary Schwenke, bar manager Sussan Trim and administration manager David Burgess.

Awards were distributed in 34 aspects of community and club operation.
