Warwick's Salvo leaders are moving on

AFTER fours years at the helm of the Salvation Army's operations on the Southern Downs, Corps Officers Steve and Lydia Spencer are moving on.

The couple, who have done so much good work in Warwick are off to Mackay to take up their new posting.

Mr Spencer said the announcement was made official on Thursday.

"As of January 12, 2017 we start our work in Mackay," Mr Spencer said.

"As corps officers, it was our responsibility to oversee Salvation Army operations on the Southern Downs.

"We were in charge of leading church services, managing welfare serice and emergency welfare assistance, helping those in need and fundraising.

"Whilst we were appointed to the corps, we're essentially appointed to the community.

"We'll have the same role in Mackay, with few extra responsibilities."

Mr Spencer said the couple had been in Warwick almost four years.

"We arrived just as the Australia Floods were devastating Warwick," he said.

"We got straight into assisting those people who were taken refuge in WIRAC, and we've done our best to continue to assist those in need around the whole region since then.

"There's also a lot of stuff we've done that you can't see, supporting local people who were in need, helping people getting back on their feet, offering a shoulder to those who require and we've certainly appreciated the support in return from the community when we've needed it.

"We have been lucky to have worked with lots of great councils, groups and organisations around the region and we thank them all for their support and help over the years."
