WATCH: Swapping sports for science sends WIRAC into a buzz
ON ANY normal day WIRAC is a hub for shooting hoops and lifting weights, but on Wednesday it was a place for kids and families to exercise their brains.
A huge turnout of just under 1000 young people and their families popped, spun and played with science activities at the Shell Questacon Science Circus.
Forty different interactive science exhibits made for a crazy afternoon Warwick children won't forget.
Tour coordinator Aidan Muirhead said the event aimed to get science out of the school and into the wider community.
"They get to see science at its funnest and most colour-filled version and interact with it without the pressure of guidelines," she said.
"It's all just about them exploring the words around us."
Warwick mother Louise Ratcliffe said it was a great chance for her two kids to see a different side to science.
It's an opportunity the kids don't normally have here locally so the fact they can come up from Canberra and bring all their bits and paces from the Questacon centre is great," Mrs Ratcliffe said.
Some of the most popular events were the Magic Vs Science show where presenters explored the science behind popular magic tricks.
The Shell Questacon Science Circus team has been doing presentations in schools around Warwick all week.
It's the first stop in a tour through regional Queensland, with the circus heading to Toowoomba, Dalby, Kingaroy, Bundaberg and other towns.
