NEWLY-installed CCTV cameras have captured a childcare worker pushing a four-year-old girl down a flight of stairs.

The horrific incident happened at the Childcare of the Future centre in Delaware County, US, on Friday only 45 minutes after the CCTV cameras were turned on.

The footage shows Sarah Gable, 52, push the girl from behind causing her to fall down several steps, 6 ABC reports.

After she realises she is being recorded she helps the girl up and down the remainder of the stairs.

Shawayne Tavares, the daycare administrator who saw the incident on camera said: "I was so upset. It just hurt me.

"We don't treat children here like that."

The girl was not seriously injured.

Centre staff immediately reported the abuse to police and have reportedly fired the carer.

Gable was charged with assault, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child and released on bail.
