Temporary fix to water main
SOUTHERN Downs Regional Council has moved quickly to repair a break in the water main between Leslie Dam and Warwick.
As a result, emergency water restrictions imposed earlier today have now been lifted. Residents may now use water as per normal water usage guidelines. Normal water usage guidelines can be found on www.southerndowns.qld.gov.au.
Temporary repairs have been made to the 600mm water main.
Director of Engineering Peter See said: "This has been a tremendous effort by our water maintenance and treatment staff. I'd like to thank all the staff who worked so quickly and professionally."
"I'd also like to thank all residents for their cooperation in conserving water during this outage, there was a considerable reduction in usage on what has been a very hot day," Mr See said.
Council will schedule a planned maintenance in future to make permanent repairs once additional parts are available.
This water main is part of the original Leslie dam pipeline built in the 1960s.
"Council is in the process of assessing all the current water and sewerage infrastructure in Warwick, some of which dates back to the 1940s, as part of its overall asset management and capital works replacement program."
