Council cleans out water pipes
KILLARNEY residents have been urged to plan their washing times this week as the town's water pipes will be getting cleaned out a council engineering spokesman said.
The Southern Downs Regional Council (SDRC) will be progressively scouring water mains throughout the Killarney Water Reticulation Area for three days.
Work is scheduled to start on Wednesday and finish on Friday.
The council engineering spokesman said the cleaning would take place between 7.30am and 4.30pm each day and was being done to remove a build-up of deposits from the system.
“This exercise is part of the regular maintenance program for our water reticulation system,” the spokesman said.
“This time we will focus on cleaning Killarney's water mains.
“This is an important maintenance job that removes any build-up inside the pipes.”
He said the maintenance work could result in some short-term discolouration of water to households but the process should provide longer term benefits to the water system.
“Residents could expect some short-term water discolouration and are urged to plan their washing around these three days of maintenance,” he said.
“If water remains discoloured after council workers have left the area, the householder should run a tap for a few minutes until the water clears.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this necessary maintenance.”
Residents are advised to Contact the Southern Downs Regional Council's customer service centre on 46610300 if the discolouration continues.
