Rats fight for second half win
INSIDE centre Coedie Tandy was the star of the show with three tries as the Warwick Water Rats scored their second win of the season at Risdon Oval on Saturday.
St George led 19-0 in the 25th minute of the game but Warwick fought back to win 33-24.
Tandy scored the first Warwick try after capitalising on some outstanding forward play 10m from the line to reduce the St George lead to 19-5 five minutes before half-time.
Co-coach Ryan Smith said his side knew at half-time they could win the game.
“We dominated the second half,” Smith said.
“It was without doubt our best half of footy for the season.”
Tandy scored two more tries, and winger Jon Tuiono and flanker Smith one each.
With number eight Mitchell Lamb leaving the field in the first half with a knee injury, Matt Tuiono took over the kicking role and landed four conversions.
Tandy, Matt Tuiono and halfback Don Miller were the best for Warwick.
It was a gala day of rugby union on Saturday with four junior games and then a golden oldies game between Warwick and Stanthorpe.
In B-grade, South Burnett defeated St George.
Warwick travels to Heritage Oval to play the Toowoomba Bears on Saturday in A-grade.
