Water Rats in one-point loss after long trip to Condamine

RUGBY UNION: The Water Rats went down 15-14 to the Condamine Cods in Condamine on Saturday.

Bad weather threatened to cancel the game but it continued despite muddy conditions. There will be no rest for the Water Rats as this weekend’s fixture is in Roma and then a home game against Dalby.

The Rats travelled to Condamine with a strong team featuring some new and up-and-coming players. The opening try of the match was scored by Condamine but the Rats quickly struck back scoring a try off Vladimir Savovski after strong forward play. The Cods managed to score two more tries in the first half to lead 15-7 at half-time.

Going into the second half, the Rats managed to maintain the majority of ball possession and field territory but failed to convert that into points only managing to cross the line once through Saul Whiley (pictured). The Rats were frustrated by some refereeing decisions they didn’t agree with.

Two of the best were Angus Brennand and Whiley. The Rats will need to win this weekend at Roma to stay in the top-five. Training Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm at Risdon Oval. – Patrick Black
