Water Rats win two from three in home carnival
RUGBY UNION: The Warwick Water Rats women had wins against St George and Rangers at the weekend before losing four tries to two against Gatton.
Captain-coach Carly Cooper said if the team continued to improve, they should be in contention for the finals series.
Maddie Burton impressed in her first carnival for the Water Rats.
"Her sister Sam is a team regular and Maddie was home from Canberra where she works for the Australian Defence Force. She played rugby league for the Australian Defence Force in the recent national carnival,” Cooper said.
"Maddie's speed and power was a great boost for the team.”
Cooper said Tiffany Cullen and Keeley Mooney also played well in their first games for the season.
"We have to improve our communication and be better at backing up,” Cooper said.
"Our defence was solid, we defended a whole half against St George. They scored two tries against us in the first half and then we scored three in the second half to win.
"We had a few injuries at the weekend so I am hoping everyone will be fit for the carnival at Roma in a fortnight.”
