Wattles at home to top team in TRL
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Wattles Warriors might have beaten Oakey 44-10 in last weekend's TRL A-grade clash on a cold Saturday night in Oakey but that will matter little when they hosts competition leaders Dalby at Platz Oval on Sunday.
Coach Gary Lawrence was concerned his troops wandered from the game plan in the second half last weekend, something they can't do in the final month of the season when they play three top-four teams.
"We led 30-0 at half-time at Oakey but failed to capitalise on opportunities. But it was good to get the two premiership points,” he said.
"Points gathered now are vital,” he said.
"We have a tough run over the final four weeks of fixtures against Dalby, Highfields and Valleys punctuated by a bye round."
The win against Oakey reaped rewards with the Warriors leaping to fifth rung on the TRL premiership ladder.
It was a second winning result in as many weeks for the Warriors who also accounted for competition high rollers the Pittsworth Danes last week, as they attempt to make every post a winner in their run into the final series.
Coach Gary Lawrence had reservations about the underated Bears before Saturday's contest, but his injury racked band of young talent with a liberal sprinkling of experience and ability certainly proved to be up to the task.
Wattles eight tries to two thrashing of the Bears will install a generous dose of confidence into Lawrence's charges as they prepare for Sunday's battle with Dalby at Platz Oval.
Clever five-eighth and Wattles juniors product Josh Henry shone in the Warriors effort, the 23-year-old improving in every outing in the green and gold.
Ty Gardner's move from his usual position in the centres to the second-row was obviously to his liking, collecting a try and players' player honours.
Front rowers Michael Pearson and Jarred Bradfield impressed again at the weekend while club stalwart Brenden Wilson made a strong comeback in the three-quarter line that included a touch down, after a lengthy injury lay off in recent weeks.
Brenden's centre partner Braydon Wilson added another try to his season total allowing him to continue as current TRL top try scorer.
