Wattles in a high scoring game in border town
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Wattles Warriors scored eight tries to beat Goondiwindi 46-32 in a high-scoring game at Goondiwindi on Sunday.
Wattles led 22-12 at halftime.
Winger Andrew Richardson, centre Nick Van Der Poel and fullback Jackson Green each scored two tries with Jake Hargreaves and Joe Morris scoring tries.
Matt Duggan kicked five goals, Travis Burns one and Jackson one. One of Duggan's goals was from near touch into a tricky wind.
Wattles president Glyn Rees rated Richardson, Green, prop Michael Pearson and Nick Van Der Poel as four of his best.
"Pearson had a great game up front. Matt Duggan and Travis Burns combined well in the halves,” Rees said.
"Goondiwindi had some big forwards who worried Wattles, especially Kriton Paletaoga- Eliu and Andy Hoggart.
"Five-eighth Brandon McGrady was impressive throughout for Goondiwindi. They have a great facility for rugby league at Goondiwindi and the Boars club was happy with the crowd.
Wattles and Goondiwindi were 10-all at halftime in reserve grade before the home side won 32-16. Wattles forfeited the under-18 game due to work commitments, injuries and players on holidays
