Wattles player only Southern Downs rep in All Stars team
RUGBY LEAGUE: Wattles forward Dale Perkins is the only Southern Downs player in the Toowoomba All Stars team to play the Indigenous All Stars on February 25 at Clive Berghofer Stadium.
Perkins captained Wattles last season and proved to be one of the best forwards in the league. He was the Wattles Footballer of the Year for the whole club.
Wattles have recruited well in the off season so the odds are they will move from the bottom half to top half of the competition this season.
Grand finalists Warwick don't have any players in the team but some of the obvious choices could not be considered as they won't be playing in the TRL this season.
Last year, three Warwick players were in the Clydesdales team, forwards Sam Broomhall and Trent Richardson, and winger Brodie Quirk.
Broomhall and Richardson are playing overseas for the season.
Cowboys captain Dylan Galloway would have been a certain selection but was unavailable for this game. Both Dylan and his brother Dion are at Cowboys training and gearing up for the TRL season.
Galloway and Richardson made the TRL Team of the Year last season and centre Joe Fuimaono was selected on the bench.
Ronnie David and Callum Skinner are the two Goondiwindi player in the team.
Fullback Steve Franciscus has moved from Gatton to Dalby this season and is in the team. Dalby is another club to have recruited well in the off season.
TRL teams are back at training.
Warwick Cowboys training is 6pm Tuesday and Thursday at Father Ranger Oval while Wattles are training each Wednesday from 6.30pm at Platz Oval. Wattles will revert to twice a week training next month.
