Wattles ready for game against the Dalby Diehards
RUGBY LEAGUE: Go out and stop the big Dalby pack will be one of the final messages from coach Gary Lawrence as Wattles aims for three successive wins in the Toowoomba Rugby League A-grade game at Dalby tonight.
Wattles prop Tim Sharpe is battling an elbow injury and versatile forward Jarred Bradfield is in doubt after hurting his hand at work.
Coach Lawrence said Sharpe didn’t train on Tuesday night but trained on Thursday night.
“We will see how the two forwards are on game day,” he said.
Dalby is just above Wattles on the points table.
Wattles has three wins in nine games and Lawrence isn’t even thinking about his team’s top-five hopes even if they finish the first round with a win against Dalby to make it four from 10 and move to eight competition points.
“I think there will be a lot of ups and downs for teams in the second round.
“Eighteen or 20 points could be enough for the five but a team might even need 22,” he said.
Among the sizable players in the Dalby forward pack is the three Manley Brothers who played for Wattles in a 2014 premiership win.
“We need to get on top of Dalby in the forwards if we want to win,” Lawrence said.
SCOTT Morton has been appointed representative co-ordinator for the Warwick and District Junior Rugby League.
Morton has played TRL footy for Warwick and Wattles, after coming through the Eastern Suburbs juniors.
He represented Australia at tertiary level during the 2006 season.
“We have two more rounds of Jack Gleeson Development Cup footy and then the Glyn Rees Challenge at Coolum this season,” Morton said.
