Wattles sign two big forwards for the 2017 season
RUGBY LEAGUE: Wattles has signed a prop from the New South Wales Cup competition to play in the 2017 Toowoomba Rugby League competition.
Gary Lawrence is coach for a second season and said the club had signed a couple of big forwards to help the younger players in 2017.
"Kruse Robinson has played for Wentworthville in the New South Wales Cup,” Lawrence said.
"We have also signed Kyle Marsh who played for Gatton in the TRL before missing some footy with a knee injury. He returned to footy for Stanthorpe in the Border league.
"His brother Nick from the Border under-18 side has also signed.”
Lawrence said all of the A and reserve-grade players from 2016 other than a couple had re-signed along with the majority of the under-18 players.
"The plan is to field a competitive A-grade side,” Lawrence said.
"We have a lot of great kids coming through and are working on a few more possible signings.”
Wattles have also signed centre/second-rower Josh Lucas from Tenterfield.
Lawrence said he was confident star half-back Matt Duggan would play.
"Matt is 95 per cent certain to play after knee surgery, he is three to four months away from playing,” he said.
Wattles has already had one strength and conditioning workshop and plans a camp at Platz Oval on February 4-5.
Some of the instructors at the camp will be a wrestling coach, strength and conditioning coach and three-times Olympian Debbie Wells who will assist with sprints work.
Lawrence has already formed his support team, manager Michael Ryan, water runners Grant Lollback and Justin Brown and first aid officer Heather Hoey.
