Wattles stalwart ready to hang up the boots

RUGBY LEAGUE: He has been there for the good times and the bad.

Aaron Scheid has also been heavily involved with building Wattles into back-to-back Toowoomba Rugby League premiers.

And after helping the Warriors secure that impressive two-time Hutchies-Chronicle Cup-winning feat, Scheid plans on bowing out in style.

The 28-year-old has played A grade for Wattles for more than a decade and confirmed he would hang up the boost after helping the Warriors beat Dalby 52-26 in Sunday's grand final at Clive Berghofer Stadium.

Not only was he finishing up as a player but also as president of Wattles following the club's 50th year.

Scheid was thrilled to be going out on the back of consecutive TRL premiership wins.

"It's a great way to go out," he said. "It is a bit of a dream to go out like that.

"Going back-to-back was a massive effort.

"I'm retiring on both. As soon as I took on the (president) job three years ago I said I would go for three years and now I have done that."

Scheid enjoyed a great personal moment during the grand final win as he crossed for a try against Dalby.

The good times now were being relished by Scheid as he had been at the club during the bad times as well.

It was only in 2012 Wattles finished with the wooden spoon after a win-less season.

The Warriors also picked up the wooden spoon in the TRL two years earlier.

"We had a couple of tough years in there. The tough years make the good years very (good)," Scheid said.

"I've been in seniors since '03 so I have been there for a while."
