Wattles to play final at home ground of opponent
RUGBY LEAGUE: Wattles will travel into enemy territory on Sunday when they play Valleys for the Madsen Rasmussen Trophy at Herb Steinohrt Oval, the home ground of Valleys.
Wattles coach Travis Burns said the team was virtually at full strength.
"Liam Ross will be the only hooker in the squad so will play the majority of the game,” Burns said.
Valleys were the only team in the first round to beat Wattles.
"We had seven starting players out that day so will be stronger for the trophy final,” Burns said.
He said Jackson Green, Ty Gardner, Matt Duggan and Jake Hargreaves were four of the best so far this season.
"Valleys are strong all over the park. We just worry about what we have to do and ball control will be a big thing for us,” he said.
"If we can complete a high percentage of sets and control the ball, we will be in the contest.”
The match will also be a battle between two coaches with NRL experience as players, Burns and Brett Seymour.
Burns was at Manly and Seymour at the Broncos when they first did battle in the NRL.
Later, Burns was in the North Queensland Cowboys and played against a Cronulla team including Seymour.
Burns later played for Penrith and then Super League in England and returned to his home club this season for the first time in more than a decade.
