Wattles win but inside back heading home to England

RUGBY LEAGUE: Wattles played a new halves combination in a 34-16 victory against Oakey at Platz Oval on Saturday night.

Oakey battled gamely for most of the match and only trailed by six points with five minutes to go. Wattles scored two late converted tries for a comfortable win.

New halves combination Michael Duggan and Jaime Abbas both played well in the victory.

Wattles went into the game without half-back and past TRL Player of the Year Matt Duggan who is out for a month with a knee injury.

They also went into the game without English import Jordan Gale who is heading home to England tomorrow.

"Jordan is going home for family reasons,” club president Neil Phelan said.

Ty Gardner was best forward and players' player while Brendon Wilson was the best back for Wattles.

Wattles beat Oakey 88-0 in reserve grade and also won the U18s.
