Waugh goes for polocrosse home title after win in Chinchilla
POLOCROSSE: After being part of the winning team at last year's Queensland Polocrosse Club Championships at Chinchilla, Ryle Waugh will be looking for back-to-back titles on her home fields at Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve starting tomorrow.
Ryle first played at the age of nine and said she had been going to state championships "forever".
"We all went to watch Dad and now the three of us (siblings) are all playing as well," she said.
Last year, Ryle and her older sister Ella, brother Todd and their father Allan played in the winning Cunningham mixed team and all four will again play A-grade mixed tomorrow.
They will be joined by Melissa Kerr and Anthony O'Leary in the A-grade mixed team.
Ryle said their toughest game last year was against Tambo.
"I would expect Tambo, Warwick and Tansey will be the hardest to beat," she said.
All four members of the Waugh family will be on the same horses as last year.
That for Ryle means she will be playing 13-year-old mare Emarillion Obsession, a horse she has played for the past six years.
Three years ago, Ryle played for Australia against Ireland in four intermediate internationals at Cunningham and Warwick grounds and this year travelled to Sydney to play in the Australian Yellow U21 side against Australian Green and New South Wales in a round-robin in the Sydney Polocrosse Club Carnival at Camden.
Ryle is aiming to make the Queensland open side to play in the 2016 nationals at Albury in April.
"How I play this weekend will definitely count with the selectors," she said.
"While I am still eligible to play intermediates, I want to play in the open team. One day, I want to play for Australia in open polocrosse."
Play will start at 8am tomorrow to Sunday. There are functions each night in the clubhouse at Bony Mountain.
