We all talk about it, but what is it?
WEATHER - we talk about it every day, we watch it on TV and we look to the sky for it. So what is it?
The Collins Dictionary describes it as "the day-to-day meteorological conditions, esp temperature, cloudiness, and rainfall, affecting a specific place". In our terms it means is it hot or cold? Wet or dry? Windy or still? And how cloudy is it?
Weather has been an integral part of our existence since time began and continues to dominate our lives. Weather dictates many things in our lives, from what we wear to the types of food we eat, from where we live to the structures we reside in. Because of this weather is one of the most talked about subjects in the world.
Weather determines the climate of a region so, what is climate? Climate is the weather experienced in different parts of the world at different times of year. It tells us how hot, cold or wet it is likely to be and is determined by latitude, position relative to oceans or continents and altitude.
During the year we experience four seasons in most places although areas closer to the Equator only experience two. These seasons are divided into spring, summer, autumn and winter or a wet and a dry season. This is all determined by your position relative to the sun.
