Weather torments runners

LIGHTNING ended the Clifton to Nobby leg of the Endeavour Foundation 500km Team Endurance Relay at 4pm Saturday.

The three-day relay was contested by 300 runners and again won by the Victory Sports team from the Gold Coast.

Saturday action started at Killarney before a lunch break in Warwick and criterium around Leslie Park.

The relay raised $55,000 for the Endeavour Foundation.

Race director Phil Hungerford said organisers felt it was too risky to continue on Saturday due to lightning.

"We stopped the race at 4pm Saturday and then all the runners were taken to their accommodation," he said.

Yesterday, more thunderstorms worried the runners in the Lockyer Valley after Lowood recorded a fall on 175mm on Saturday night.
