Warwick could soon be little proud for local business figure

A WARWICK business identity could be destined for Federal Parliament in Canberra following next year's elections.

Rose City local and former Chamber of Commerce president David Littleproud is the favourite to win LNP preselection for the Federal seat of Maranoa.

Mr Littleproud, who has long been rumoured to have political aspirations, is one of five possible candidates to replace retiring MP Bruce Scott.

Chamber of Commerce president Lewis von Stieglitz said Mr Littleproud was an active member of the Warwick business community.

"The Chamber would be delighted to have a Warwick person as the Member for Maranoa," he said.

"David had a very successful term as chamber president.

"He was very good at engaging with members and advocating for local businesses with the government."

It won't be an easy contest for the Suncorp Regional Banking Manager, who faces tough competition from Maranoa Regional councillor Cameron O'Neil.

Five people will contest preselection to be the LNP candidate for the seat of Maranoa at the next federal election.

The preselection follows the decision of long-serving MP, Bruce Scott to retire.

Banking manager Lachlan Douglas and graziers Alison Krieg and Rick Gurnett are also in the running.

LNP members will vote via a postal plebiscite to choose the new candidate.

The ballot closes on October 22, with votes counted and a candidate named on October 23.

Neither the candidates nor the party are able to make public comment until the ballot is over.
