Week off keeps Wildcat eyes on ultimate goal
BASKETBALL: A bye across all three grades this weekend has given the Warwick Wildcats a well- earned break as they head into the business part of
the season.
The forfeiture of teams before the season began played havoc with the draw, meaning Warwick has just one game remaining in each grade.
Wildcats manager Jay Clark said the situation was not ideal, but he was confident the A Grade side would perform well when it counted.
"The game against USQ won't be able to be played in Warwick due to the court being used for the election,” Clark said.
"But both teams are still keen to have a hit-out.
"They're the benchmark of the competition, so we want a strong showing against them.”
In the Reserve Grade, Clark said team chemistry was a key to the side's finals hopes.
"They need to make a few minor improvements on individual things, but as a team they play for each other, and you wouldn't want it any other way,” he said.
"The women's side will be missing Kaila Gabriel for the finals, which means the side will have to really step up in her absence.”
The semi-finals start on December 9, with the first- placed team in A Grade to host games.
A Grade and Reserve Grade will feature a 1 v 4, 2 v 3 format, with the winner of each game to meet in the grand final on December 16.
The women's division will see the top-placed team go straight through to the grand final, with 2 v 3 to determine its opponent.
