WELCOME: Games guests arrive in Warwick

WHEN working out at the gym this week, keep an eye on the person next to you because they could be a world-class athlete.

Representatives from the Cameroon Commonwealth Games team have started arriving in the Rose City, with the rest of the athletes due to arrive today and Friday.

Warwick has already made a good impression, as team chef de mission Victor Agbor Nso said it was a beautiful city with delicious food and friendly people.

More than 60 athletes and officials from six sporting disciplines will be training in Warwick in the lead up to the games.

Voyage Gym will host the powerlifting and weightlifting athletes, while basketball and wrestling teams will train out of WIRAC.

Track and field athletes will travel to the Glennie School in Toowoomba to train.

"We know Warwick is a bit far off from the Gold Coast, we needed a space where our athletes could have concentration,” Mr Agbor Nso said.

"We are very grateful to the Southern Downs Regional Council for this facilitation.”

The representatives made their first public appearance at the 2018 Junior Sports Star awards on Monday night.

They will be staying at the Christian College Slade Campus until next Wednesday.
