Welcome return for rodeo at Show

IT wouldn’t be a Southern Downs Show without a bit of rodeo action and after the event was scratched last year, rodeo chairman Terry Keogh promises the event is back bigger than ever.

There is $1000 in prizemoney to be won in the open bull ride, with riders expected to come from across Queensland to take part in the event.

“All we need is the nominations to make it a great success,” Mr Keogh said.

After the event was taken off the main attraction program last year and replaced with the Battle of the Bands, the Warwick Show Society saw the need to bring the rodeo back to Saturday night for 2010.

“It will be a good night of entertainment for people to come and watch. Any rodeo is a great night out as far as I am concerned,” Mr Keogh said.

The riders will face some fierce bulls from well-known bull experts Ross Hamilton and Frank Biddle, which will create a great challenge for the cowboys.

Rodeo action gets under way at 6pm with the open bull ride, junior bull ride, open barrel race, junior barrel race, junior steer ride and poddy calf ride.

Warwick Show chairman John Wilson is excited about the possibilities of a record-breaking show, as entries have closed for most events and the numbers are strong in every section.

The prime-lamb section this year is a great area to watch, as the section’s entries are well above normal, blitzing previous nomination records.

“With all the entries very strong it should be another very good show this year,” Mr Wilson said.

All riders interested in the rodeo events should contact the Warwick Show Grounds office on 4661 9927 before closing on Friday.
