WELCOME TO TOWN: New year, new faces at Warwick Pig and Calf
THE flies may not have impressed Warwick's newest family at the Pig and Calf, but a friendly "hoo roo” from locals certainly did.
A chance to make some new mates and get their foot in with the rural crowd came for members of the Saxton family this morning as they prepare to buy a farm at Deuchar.
Cliff Saxton said it was a great introduction to Warwick.
"The boys want motorbikes so they will need to raise some poddy calves to earn a bit of money,” he said.
Moving from Kooralbyn, his sons Tama-iti and Matariki (Matt) are keen to start school at Scots PGC College this year.
The boys, who will take up horse riding, are looking forward to the school's agricultural program.
For the regulars, a mighty the seed was sown for a mighty 2019 at the Warwick Pig and Calf Sale.
Allora poultry farmer Steve Harrop had been hanging out for the first sale of the year and he walked away sporting an enormous watermelon.
Balancing the green monster strategically on his head, Mr Harrop left content with his purchase.
"It's one of my favourite fruits for this time of year,” he said.
A pig and calf regular, Mr Harrop remarked on how busy the sale was.
"This is huge, I guess people must have some money to spend,” he said.
