Well done to top citizens Graham and Greg with wins

SPORTSVIEW with Gerard Walsh

I COULDN'T have been happier to see Graham Buchner and Greg Thouard win Citizen of the Year awards last Thursday.

Graham was the Warwick winner and Greg won at Stanthorpe.

While the wins were for top citizens, it is fair to say both have also made a massive contribution to sport.

I first met Graham when he delivered fuel to our farm 40-plus years ago and my mother insisted he have a cup of tea.

Greg was a representative on the Area Committee for Recreation when I was a council representative in the 1980s and his enthusiasm for sport and recreation hasn't waned.

I also had a bit to do with Greg through rugby league when I became a sports reporter. The reality is he has put more than his fair share into the community and a lot of sports.

Graham might be best known driving a little red tractor and slasher on the approaches to town but I have seen him many days with a flag somewhere on the motocross track at Morgan Park.

Both push the events side of things, Greg in particular with Stanthorpe Apple and Grape and Graham with anything to bring money into the town, especially at Morgan Park and with his events caravan.
