Welsh rewarded by cricket carnival win in Warwick
CRICKET: Troy Welsh was like hundreds of cricketers at the weekend - he came home for a spot of cricket.
He works in the water police at Yeppoon and was part of a travelling group across all teams that came from as far as Cairns and Melbourne.
Welsh shared in four wins and to make his trip home even better - he led the carnival winning team Stunned Mullets.
A former Queensland junior player, Welsh tends to make it home for carnivals from wherever he is stationed with the Queensland Police Service.
This season he had high praise for three team members who were consistent throughout; Lachlan Gross, Nathan Case and Kane Bradford, a young paceman from Toowoomba who was playing in his first carnival.
"We didn't have an easy game this season after the way the carnival has been re-structured," he said.
The spirit of the carnival was there for all to see at the 13 grounds used, including Redbacks AFL headquarters Warwick Credit Union Oval, which was used for the carnival for the first time. Gross showed the carnival spirit between players when he also wanted runners-up Marbuck's XI in the winning photo yesterday.
