Wet weekend set to follow our first frost
YESTERDAY morning saw light frosts grace parts of the Southern Downs, marking the region's official move into winter.
Meteorologist Rob Sharpe said yesterday morning was quite chilly with Oakey, Dalby and Applethorpe dropping to two degrees.
A low of two and half degrees was also recorded at the Warwick airport.
A cold air mass came in behind a cold front over the weekend and, with light winds and clear skies, it has left the cold air at the surface making for some colder mornings.
Progressing into May is the usual time to see first frosts of the year in Warwick but Mr Sharpe doubted there would be another morning as cool as yesterday in the next week.
Looking ahead he said there was only a slight chance of frost from today, and most places should be a touch warmer as a low pressure coastal trough moves across the region.
From Wednesday, the coastal trough will keep moisture in the air, and bring with it the potential for showers to develop through to Saturday.
The Thursday forecast has a high chance of a showers and possible thunderstorms across the Darling Downs.
The low pressure system will move over the coastal region and southern ranges and keep us a little warmer overnight for the rest of the week, with temperatures dipping down to about 10 degrees.
A cooler, drier air mass is expected to return to the region early next week.
Mr Sharpe said the cool air mass would bring some more cold mornings after the weekend but it might be a couple of weeks until we experienced a proper frost in Warwick.
