WHAT a weekend of horsepower sport: from polocrosse at Bony Mountain to motorsport at Morgan Park, campdrafting at the Warwick Showgrounds and trotting at Allman Park.

I was pleasantly surprised with the crowd at the Father's Day Trots and a promise that next year Garrard's Warwick Cup would have prize money of $10,000

As Darling Downs Harness Racing Club president Anthony Collins said, it was a long time since he had seen such a high percentage of children at a race meeting.

It was all good from a sporting perspective at the weekend; even if a few teams are disappointed they didn't win.

I was impressed with the friendliness of the crowd at the Football Stanthorpe grand finals on Saturday.

It was Warwick versus Ballandean, one of the five Granite Belt clubs in the men's grand final, but the Warwick players would not have felt in enemy territory.

Everyone was applauding a close game with a lot of skill.

Well done to Ballandean for winning its first men's premiership for 19 years.

Cunningham Polocrosse Club president Bill Kerr was claiming the best state championships on record and from what I saw the event went like clockwork and the fields were still in good condition after three days of play.

Now for senior netball finals at WIRAC tonight.
