What about a bit of care for Queens Park gates
TUESDAY TANTRUM with Gerard Walsh
TIME is running out for Southern Downs sports
fans to get their names in for the first allocation of tickets to the Commonwealth Games on April 4-15 next year.
I admit to be one of the fans leaving the ticket purchase bit to the last week but every application by May 22 will be considered equally.
Better get some discus preliminary and final ones to watch Matthew Denny, and netball in case Laura Geitz returns to the Australian Diamonds team for the Commonwealth Games.
Great to see Laura recognised with a life-size sculpture outside Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
Talking Commonwealth Games, it is time the Warwick community looked at how we can beautify the Park Rd side of Queens Park.
With the Queen's Baton coming to Warwick on March 29 next year, the odds are there could be a community event at Queens Park.
Well, that was where it was when the Olympic Torch passed through Warwick before Sydney 2000 when Margaret Adcock ran the torch into Queens Park.
It is fair to say the gates at the bottom end of Palmerin St near the corner of Park Rd and Queens Park look like they need revitalisation.
The main gates at Queens Park have been superseded for safety reasons but could still do with a bit of tender loving care and some paint.
I am not saying everything is the responsibility of the council or we should push the work on to a service or community club or even ask for the matter to be considered at a user's group meeting of clubs at Queens Park.
The reality is, however, it happens the historic gates at Queens Park need a bit of love, especially if the Queen's Baton heads that way in March next year.
Even a community working bee could be the go, which I could be a part of.
I better add these gates are separate to the ones in the news at Leslie Park.
