Warwick Women's Golf
Welcome back to the 25 ladies who braved the hot conditions to play in our first competition of the year. Congratulations to Danielle Seibel who finished with a 74 nett to win division one of Saturday's monthly medal on a countback from Sam Hinze who won the overall runner-up prize. Anne Lyons played well to win division two with a great score of 73 nett. Good to see you playing in the competition Anne, and we hope that will give you the confidence to play a lot more golf this year.
The Condamine Club Sport's manager Ian Skillen was on hand to congratulate both winners and we thank the club for sponsoring our Saturday monthly medal competitions again this year. Not only was the weather hot but Tub Ingall's putter was running hot also. Tub took only 26 putts for her round easily winning the division one putting. Patricia Eastwell won division two with 31 putts. Well done ladies.
The all-in approach on the fifth was won by Judy Lester. The division one approach on the 14th was won by Sam Hinze and Liz Ellis won the division two approach on the 10th. Balls in the rundown went to Janine Stewart, Tub Ingall, Molly Seibel and Annice Payne. It was lovely to see Patricia Roberts and Sharron Cooper playing on Saturday. Welcome back to our competitions ladies.
Scores: Monthly Medal Division 1. D Seibel, S Hinze 74, J Stewart 75, T Ingall 76, M Seibel 78, A Payne, M Young, J Barnes 79, J Lester 80, E Cockram, M Kahler 82, M Adcock, M McLennan 84, H Olsen 86, C Brandon, G Mills. Division 2: A Lyons 73, T Bell, Y Pinington 79, P Kerr, P Eastwell 82, J Singleton, P Roberts 86, L Ellis 87, S Cooper.
Today we will be playing an 18 hole stableford off the white markers with a trophy kindly donated by Mel from Style Shoes. Vouchers from The Cherry Tree Coffee and Dining will be presented to each of the nine hole winners within the overall competition. Players must complete the 18 holes to be eligible for these prizes. Saturday the 20th is the KFC single stableford competition off the red markers. We thank our generous sponsors of these events. Don't forget to get your partners organised for the Australia Day two-ball medley ambrose with a shotgun start at midday and our official opening day which is a 4BBB medley stableford on Sunday, February 4.
If you missed out on ordering a club shirt and would like one, Sam is taking more orders in the Pro Shop. A reminder also if you would like to enter the shootout and other various competitions details and costs are available on envelopes in the restroom. Get in early so if you have a really good score or a gobble it will count. Some trivia for you: There is no precise number of dimples on a regulation golf ball, but most manufacturers design golf balls that have between 300 and 500 dimples! The more dimples a golf ball has, the higher the ball will fly.
Warwick Men's Golf
Scorching conditions last Saturday didn't deter 59 hardy players from playing in the Horse and Jockey Hotel Motel stableford event co-sponsored by Char Bellas. The thanks of the Warwick Golf Club go out to these two fine establishments. The winner on the day with a score of 39 points was Ben Griffiths who had two shots to spare from runner up Wayne Watt. Just these two single figure markers were able to play inside their handicaps on the day which tested most players. The ball rundown saw the following players receive a ball: Messrs Roser, and Rock on 36, Matthews, McKillop and Josh Hynes on 35 and Mills, Galloway, Bownds, Ware, Charlie Morrison, Hinze and McKinlay all on 34 points.
The NTP shots went to Matthew Watt on the 5th, Shane Scotney on the 7th, Eddie Kemp on the 9th, Wayne Watt on the 11th and Michael Hoskin on the 16th. The pro pin on 13 saw Gene McMillan take 4 balls with his excellent shot as well as Matty Tate (3 balls) Al Matthews (2 balls) while John Brandon, Doug Wilson, Scott McLennan and Rod Kilner all collected one ball.
The Red Rooster Rumble was on again last Friday and a good field played yet again. The continued support from the management of Red Rooster is appreciated. Harold Byrne was in top form to score 21 points to win from runner-up Alan Matthews who is obviously enjoying his retirement and particularly his golf which continues to improve.
Alan scored 20 points while the following players all scored a ball in the run down: Messrs Bownds, Morrisey, Charlie Morrison, Brandon, Banks and Adcock (both overcoming their 100 plus the previous Saturday) Donovan and Keith Carney while the last ball went to Carole Brandon firing a shot for the ladies. The two pin shots were won by Mark Coote on the 5th and the 7th. The fact that Mark failed to score a rundown ball makes one wonder how he went on the other seven holes? Nobody was able to hit the 9th green which is certainly a test these days.
Next Saturday we play in The Malt House sponsored single stableford and hopefully the weather will be kinder to us allowing for a big field. Another day to mark down and remember is the two-ball ambrose which is a club fundraiser event to be played on the Friday Australia Day holiday. Get yourself a partner and opponents and make it a great day out. Don't forget the Condamine Steel Shootout nominations with your $30 to be paid to captain Tony Kahler or vice-captain Garry Adcock or to Sammy or Steve at the Pro Shop. Once paid up your Saturday scores can commence so get to it and nominate.
Langham Slashers Golf
On Sunday a beautiful morning greeted a great field of players for our first round back in the new year, Danny Lyons Sports was our sponsor for the morning and Dan played great golf to win the day with a nett 24 but passed the trophy on to runner-up Mick Cronin who posted a nett 26, the ever consistent Laurie King had the best gross with a 44 of the stick, Danny Lyons had the least putts with 13, Brett Donovan picked up the only pin for the day, Graham Olsen had the longest drive and Chris Hall was our Bradman Ball winner for the day, it was great to see so many members back and enjoying the start of another year, next week we will play the back nine and after golf we will have our AGM to work out our year to come, hope to see you all next week.
Sporters Golf Club
Last Wednesday 55 members and visitors teed off in the Danny Lyons Sports trophy for January. Winner on the day was Leigh Nisbett with an excellent score of 43 points, and a quick departure from his 36 handicaps in sight! Runner-up on 39 points was 'Lightning' Alex McKinley on 39 points. Ball rundown: visitor from Townsville and old club member Mark Coote 38, Charlie Morrison 37, Ron Simon 37, Keith Farrell 36, Mal Galloway 36, Danny Lyons 36.
NTPs: Peter Hynes on 5th, Doug Rickert on 7th, Peter Hynes again on 9th, pro pin on 11, Peter Farrell 4, The Loin King and Rhys Farrell 2, Wayne Foster and Mal Galloway 1 ball each. Pro pin on 13 - Evan Pfeffer 4, Herb Ware/Scott McLennan 2, Peter Hynes/Wayne Foster/Tegan's Dad 1 each. Today we play in the Hawker Road Function Centre Trophy and the following week in the Betta Home trophy.
Members are reminded that the annual Australia Day 2 ball ambrose is on Friday, January 26, with prizes for all groups. Tee off is a shotgun start at 11.30am, register at the pro shop. Hole of the Week belongs to Tegan's Dad, whose second shot effort on 6th ended up in the 12th RHS bunker, which he enjoyed so much he had a second go at getting out but which finished in the water in front of the bunker, so was hitting 6 and still not within cooee of the green.
Well done Don and thanks to Charlie for the dob! The Buggy boys continue their sterling form and we believe that the Guinness Book of Records golf auditor Seymour Kartz will soon attend to ensure verification! Enjoy your golf!
