What's on this weekend to mark dark anniversary

HUNDREDS of past residents, tourists and townsfolk are expected to gather in Killarney this weekend for the anniversary of the 1968 tornado.

On Thursday, November 22, Come Back to Killarney will host service at the Uniting Church in Eucalyptus St from 5.30pm followed by a sausage sizzle.

A town dinner will be held on Saturday, November 24 at the Recreation Centre at 6pm and former MP Lawrence Springborg is billed as the Master of Ceremonies.

The following morning, the Killarney Heritage Centre will unveil a plaque in Canning Park. Centre secretary Jeanette Braithwaite said it was donated by a number of Southern Downs businesses.

"We would like to thank the Yangan Sandstone Quarry, Ross and Graham Hamilton, Paul Stumkat, the Killarney Co-op, Wickham's Farms, Southern Downs Regional Council and the Killarney Lions Club for their help in making this possible,” she said.

Tickets for the dinner are $30 each and are available at:
