Piggie races
THE New Year festivities in Yangan will have a different look this year, with the traditional truck pull and rodeo not going ahead.
Instead they have been replaced by pig races on New Year's Eve.
Yangan Progress Association secretary Kylie Gould said she hoped the pig races would be in Yangan to stay.
"We're hoping they will take off - I would like to think they will become a fixture on New Year's Eve," Mrs Gould said.
Mrs Gould said preparation was coming along well ahead of this evening.
"Everything is on track for tonight, we just hope the rain stays away," Mrs Gould said.
"We're looking forward to the pig races."
The pig races will take place at the Yangan Hotel from 6pm.
Egg-and-spoon races for the kids
KIDS will get a taste of some old-school fun at the Allora New Year's Eve family celebrations tonight with everything from egg-and-spoon races to sack races.
Organiser Ted Cowley said the kids' activities would get under way from 5.30pm at the Allora Showgrounds.
"It will be like the old games we used to play at school picnics years ago," Mr Cowley said.
He said the Anything Goes events would offer some good fun for the older kids and even the adults.
"They are hard to describe but have a humorous side to them," he said.
There will also be a jumping castle, snow cones, fairy floss a slippery slide and a disco to help the kids ring in the New Year, as well as the popular fireworks display at 8.30pm.
Some of the best local musicians will also strut their talents, while a barbecue, fish and chips and bar will offer refreshments.
Entry costs $7 for adults, with kids under 16 free.
