SCOTCH, Whiskey and Whisky; it all gets a bit confusing. For the uninitiated, Whisky generally refers to the hard liquor distilled in Canada, Japan, Europe and Australia. While Scotch is also Whisky, it refers to that distilled in Scotland and finally Whiskey is how our friends in Ireland and America decided to spell the good stuff. Trust us, knowing that will score you some points and you can show off your education at our list of Brisbane's best whisky bars.

1. Cobbler, West End

This bar may be small but its whisky list is 400+ strong. They're a bar that aims to provide down-to-earth service, a good chat, zero pretentiousness and a great bar experience, complemented with abundant knowledge. They're open seven days a week with regular whisky tastings and events and best of all you can always BYO your own food.

2. Nant, Brisbane City and Fortitude Valley

Brisbane's first dedicated whisky bars, the two Nant's hold more than 150 varieties from all around the world - think Scotland, India, Wales, Ireland and Japan. Their rare and unique whiskies will tantalise your taste buds while you sink into the luxurious leather and channel your inner Don Draper. The Brisbane's bars also act as cellar doors for the Tasmanian distiller's prized whiskies.

3. Sabotage Social, Fortitude Valley

Sabotage Social is bringing '90s funk back to Brisbane. With skate decks lining the walls, leather chesterfield couches, and old-school hip-hop playing on the turntables, you're guaranteed to enjoy yourself while trying one it their 50 varieties of whisky on the shelves. Find them on the corner of Gipps and Wickham Streets in Fortitude Valley.

4. The Morrison's Naked Whisky Bar, Woolloongabba

Ahh, the unsuspecting pub-that-secretly-has-a-whisky-bar bar. Held within Woolloongabba's The Morrison, Naked Whisky Bar holds more than 200 whiskies from around the world on its shelves.

5. Buffalo Bar, Brisbane City

Buffalo Bar has brought a little Americana spirit to the CBD. Head to Hank's Whiskey Bar (did you see the different spelling?) to discover the venue's range of infused and barrel-aged spirits. The Apple Pie cocktail with cinnamon whiskey sounds like a right treat.

6. The Gresham, Brisbane City

An old-world whisky saloon, The Gresham is Queensland's only heritage-listed bar and has previously won Gourmet Traveller's National Bar of Year. What we're trying to say is it's a great bar to order from the very extensive whisky and whisky cocktail list before sinking back into a dark chesterfield couch surrounded by rich mahogany furniture.
