Who is our greatest unsung sports club legend?
WHO is the greatest unsung sports club legend in the Warwick region?
Every sport has them - everyday legends who have worked tirelessly in the background for the sport they love.
They might have helped set up the club, donated the land or raised funds for years on end. Perhaps they've flipped burgers every weekend for a decade, washed grass-stained jerseys all season or taught the basics of their sport to generations of young players.
Maybe they've just supported their team at every game ever.
People like Les Fraser (polocrosse), Darryl Gillam (hockey), Dani Peel (gymnastics), Scotty McLellan (rugby union) and Greg Wallace (athletics) are five of many sports volunteers who are universally recognised for their work for their sports. Fraser has won a state award as a volunteer; Gillam and Peel are the past two Condamine Sports Club Volunteer of the Year winners and McLellan and Wallace were two of the winners during an era when the Merv Lancaster Memorial Sports Volunteer of the Year award was presented.
As we head towards Australia Day this year, your Warwick Daily News and our friends at Bundaberg Rum are looking for local Aussie legends - and you can have a chance to win yourself and them a prize by nominating them.
To nominate, go to warwickdaily news.com.au/ locallegends and tell us why your nominee for contribution to local sport is a deadset legend.
The chosen legend in this region and their nominator will each receive a $100 prepaid Visa card.
