Harsh wind gusts but region escaped mostly unscathed
WHILE storm warnings were in the forefront of residents' minds this weekend, the region escaped relatively unscathed.
Friday afternoon's storm in the Talgai/Allora area caused some damage, with an egg farm at Talgai coming off second best.
The free-range egg farm, Eggcettera, suffered damage with strong winds overturning two wagons.
"We were fortunate the damage was only superficial," owner Tim Somes said.
"While it may affect production in the short term, it is only a minor setback.
"The strength of the wind was amazing, to lift those two wagons.
"We have only suffered minimal stock losses - it could have been a lot worse."
Mr Somes said they were not home at the time but a neighbour mentioned it looked like a little tornado.
"The augers on the Clifton-Allora Boundary Road also had some damage," Mr Somes said.
Wife Toni Somes said the main thing was that no one was injured.
"It was a rather terrifying reminder of the force of mother nature, but nothing disastrous," she said.
"No one was injured; the girls were back laying eggs and back in their trailers on Saturday.
"I am just very glad we weren't driving in the storm - if it could flip a chicken trailer weighing a couple of tonnes, imagine how scary that would have been in a car!"
Warwick SES Area Controller John Newley said there was only one callout to Allora, to assist an elderly couple.
"They had a tree come down in the storm that blocked their driveway," Mr Newley said.
"They could have had a medical emergency or anything, so we assist to keep access to properties open."
Mr Newley said residents needing emergency assistance with storm damage could phone 132500.
