It's not all about the chocolate

FINALLY, the time has arrived when chocoholics can freely devour ship loads of chocolate and few will criticise.

But it's not just the delicious dairy products that fill shopping trolleys at Easter.

Aussies are predicted to spend $875.1 million in the four-day Easter break with $22.3 million of that solely on seafood, and Southern Downs spenders are no exception.

Warwick Supa IGA manager Shane Smith said seafood went out the door like hotcakes at this time of year.

"It's the biggest time for seafood. We sell more now than at Christmas time," Mr Smith said.

Steve Carey, of Locke St Carey Bros Butchery, said he was expecting seafood buyers to flock to the store today in preparation for the weekend.

"If it's going on previous Easters, they come in their droves," Mr Carey said.

But it's not just the fresh fish and crustaceans that bring the money into town. Warwick Chamber of Commerce president David Littleproud said tourism was what brought the dollars into the Rose City at this time of year.

"As things have got tighter with money people are staying and spending in Southern Downs and other people are coming here to see what we have to offer," Mr Littleproud said.

"It's a different kind of spending, but tourism has a flow-on effect to retail and so on."
