Windle, Roper and Hawthorne in winning team
HOCKEY: Grant Windle, Dave Carlson, Matt Siebuhr and Rach Sihota were the best four in the Hugh's Jass's victory in the final of the Condy Super Nines at Queens Park today.
Three Warwick teams were in a field of eight and it all came down to Hugh's Jass's led by Toowoomba player Stephen Hawthorne and Sass Fitters from Brisbane in the final.
Australian over 40s captain Andrew May led a Sass Fitters team which included four current Australian over 40s players. Warwick player Scott Reid has played with the same group at international level.
In the final, Hugh's Jass's won 4-3. Former Warwick junior Jane Roper scored one of the goals for the winners in the competition which was mixed. Two of the nine players on the field at all times had to be women.
"It is a good way to warm up for the season,” May said.
"We stayed locally and it was awesome final, I like the idea of it being a mixed competition.”
Some of the Hugh's Jass's team stayed at Leslie Dam over the weekend. Windle, Roper and Hawthorne were the three former Warwick juniors in the winning team.
The presentations were made by nines co-organiser Phil Rolfe from the Warwick Hockey Association.
