Winter care for pooches

DON’T forget about your pooches shivering outside this winter as they feel the chill as much as humans.

Allora resident Melissa Ziser keeps pups Bella and Mindy in the warm with coats to make sure they stay healthy in the cooler months.

“They both know where the warm spot is in front of the fire,” she said.

Miss Ziser said she wouldn’t want to be left outside with no blanket, so she wouldn’t expect the same for her pooches.

Warwick Town and Country Vet Coralyn Turner agreed and said it is important pets stay warm and to make sure dogs are still groomed especially if they don’t mind a spot on the bed.

“It is important to make sure they are also getting their exercise even though it’s so cold outside,” Dr Turner said.

She warned that flea treatments shouldn’t stop over the cooler months and worming should also be kept up to date. In the winter months it hits dogs with arthritis hard and this should be monitored.
