WIRAC to reel ‘em in for fishing challenge

GRAB your rod and head down to WIRAC this Saturday for the centre's inaugural fishing challenge.

The challenge will see the lifeguards take on the rest of the centre's staff for the first time, but WIRAC manager Frederic Meyer said the general public could also get involved.

"We're holding a fishing competition in our hydro pool," Mr Meyer said.

"It will run from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and the general public is welcome to enter as well.

"It's going to be a free-for-all, the teams will fish until there are none left in the pool and then we will count how many each team caught.

"We need to have all fish caught so we can re-open the pool to the public again afterwards."

Mr Meyer said the hydro pool was the ideal place to hold the competition.

"It's a reasonably small pool, which is good because you can see the fish from anywhere," he said.

"We'll drop the water temperature down to 12 degrees because fish are more active at that temperature.

"I think the lifeguards should have the edge but I'm not totally confident.

"The public are welcome to bring their rods and get involved as long as they are short rods.

"There is not enough space for long rods, and there will also be no casting in as it would be too dangerous."

Entry will be free, but a gold coin donation would be appreciated from any competitors.

Mr Meyer said patrons would be allowed to bring their own alcohol, but no glass would be allowed.

He also said he hoped the competitors could reel the fish in as well as anyone still reading had been reeled in.

April Fools.
