Witnesses hold down out-of-control crash driver: police

RESIDENTS were forced to restrain a driver after his alleged out-of-control collision spree in Sunshine Coast streets.

Kawana Waters Police Station officer in charge Senior Sergeant Mark Cordwell said a 39-year-old Woombye man was "detained by witnesses" on a Minyama street after crashing into "several" vehicles in the area about 8pm on Thursday November 30.

Police officers arrested the man, took him to the Maroochydore Watchhouse and charged him with driving while under the influence of liquor or drugs.

The man was granted watchhouse bail and is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday January 8, 2018.

"This is a concerning matter when people get behind the wheel while allegedly significantly impaired, putting other road users and themselves in danger," Snr Sgt Cordwell said.
