Wolves eye off year ahead in Toowoomba football

FOOTBALL: The Warwick Wolves will field four teams in Football Toowoomba competitions this season and club official Peter Darton is upbeat about the club's hopes.

The Warwick over 35 years men's team has already started its season under coach Bruce Greenaway.

Warwick will play in the men's premier competition under new coach Mick Willmot.

After missing last season, the Warwick women's team is back in Toowoomba Football under the coaching of Karen Gilchrist and Dave Burton.

The first games for the Warwick premier and women's teams will be on the March 3-4 weekend and each will play on a home and away basis.

The Wolves won the colts competition last season but the colts competition has been replaced by a 16/17 years boys competition as part of the junior structure in Toowoomba.

So far this season in over 35s, Warwick has lost 2-1 to USQ and drawn 1-all with Rockville.

While the over 35s don't train, premier men, women and 16/17 years teams train each Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm at Queens Park.

While the men's premier team and over 35s have strong numbers, more players are needed in women's and 16/17 teams.

Peter Darton is coach of the 16/17 and is upbeat about the club's chances in all grades.

"There is a lot of enthusiasm about our four teams in Toowoomba,” he said.

Nominations are open for junior competition, which starts on April 21. Players sign up online at www.playfootball.com.au with instructions on Warwick Wolves website.
