Wolves off to Spain with teams next year
FOOTBALL: The Warwick Wolves will send two teams to Spain next year on a development tour.
Wolves Football Academy director of coaching Tim Gaske said he had an opportunity to go on a football tour to Japan at the age of 16.
"The tour was an unforgettable experience and I want to give our developing players the same opportunity,” Gaske said.
Gaske is organising the trip with the help of Matt Kairouz and already 13 players and seven adults have signed up for the trip.
"We have a vision to give regional kids access to higher level coaching and tournaments spanning 40 weeks of the year,” he said.
"We coach not only sporting development but also personal development and in our third year, the academy has more than 100 children training between the ages of three and 15.
"The academy has had fantastic sponsorship from Choices Flooring, Telstra and Coachmans Inn which has enabled us to keep academy registration costs to a minimum.”
While some of the academy staff are involved with the organisation of the trip, the tour to Spain will be apart from the academy and organised through DB Sports Tours (Ireland) which organised the visit of three coaches to Warwick from the West Bromwich Albion club during the 2017 season.
The players will be in Spain for nine days and split the time between Barcelona and Madrid.
"Each Warwick team will have four or five training sessions and three or four games in Spain.
"We will watch a La Liga game,” he said.
The tour is open to players aged nine to 17 from all centres.
