Wolves ready to take on the best of Toowoomba footy

FOOTBALL: Caitlyn Marstella answers a question with a question when asked about her decision to play football for the first time.

"Why not?" Marstella said at training for her first season in the sport.

She is in training under Derek Kane, the coach who steered the Wolves into the semis in Football Stanthorpe last season.

With Warwick back in the Toowoomba competition, Kane has a similar squad to last season with a few new recruits, including Marstella and her cousin Shandell Doro.

"Family and friends play for the Wolves, so I decided to have a game," Marstella said.

She is a regular at parkrun in Warwick after a sporting career which has included gymnastics, dancing, netball and tennis.

"I thought about playing for the Wolves two years ago but have come to training this season," Marstella said.

"I will play in whatever position they put me."

Shandell Doro didn't play last season but is preparing to return from back surgery.

"It is a month until I will be able to do contact at training and then hope to return to the field some time during the first round," Doro said.

She played for four years in various age groups for South West Thunder in the National Premier League.

"I normally play in the midfield," she said.

Louise Rolfe is one of the returning players and will be a trump card in Toowoomba.

She was player of the season in the Stanthorpe women's competition in 2015, scoring 27 goals.

At the Wolves presentations, she received the Coaches Award.

This year, Leeanda Doro is the Wolves women's manager and is keen to hear from prospective players on 0429 474 903.

Women, 16 years and older, are welcome at training at 6pm Tuesday and Thursday at Queens Park. Warwick will play trials against Rockville on February 13.
