Wolves to face tough test on Sunday
FOOTBALL: Warwick Wolves premier men's side faces a big challenge on Sunday, as players travel to Toowoomba to take on Willowburn.
The Willowburn side sits second on the ladder with five wins and three losses, behind the unbeaten University Of Southern Queensland side.
The Wolves, after a big 3-0 win over Gatton last week, sit in fourth spot with two wins, four losses and two draws.
Wolves coach Mick Wilmott said his side had turned a corner after a few early losses.
"I've noticed a big shift since our game against Rockville at Rockville,” he said.
"We lost Matt Carey to injury not long into that game and the 10 boys left on the paddock fought incredibly well to hold on for a nil-all draw.
"That game gave them some real self-belief and showed them what they are capable of.”
Wilmott said this weekend's Willowburn match-up would be a great measuring stick for the team.
"We'll definitely be able to see what we're playing for this weekend,” he said.
"It's going to be a tough and physical game and we'll need work hard, there's no doubt about it. Willowburn have been a strong club for a long time and are consistently in the top two or three, so we'll have to be right on the game.
"But what I've seen of Willowburn this season so far, we are more than capable of beating them.”
Wilmott said minimisation of mistakes would be key.
"Whoever controls the midfield will control the game,” he said.
"We'll need to be careful in our half, they are quick up front and will be trying to make us pay for any errors.”
Wolves play Willowburn at Commonwealth Oval, Toowoomba, from 3pm tomorrow.
