Wolves women in football grand final against Willowburn

FOOTBALL: Every team that goes through a season undefeated feels pressure on the day when it matters most.

The Warwick Wolves will hope that will be the case for Willowburn tomorrow in the grand final showdown in the Toowoomba women's grand final.

Tomorrow's grand final will be the second in Toowoomba for the Warwick women's team after coach Mark Canton steered the Wolves to a premiership win in 2008.

While the 2008 win was at Clive Berghofer Stadium, this year's season decider will be at West Wanderers field in Hume St from 10am tomorrow.

Coach Derek Kane first played football in Ireland and has used his experience in football in two countries to steer the team to this year's grand final.

"If we turn up as a team and play to our full potential, we have the chance of upsetting Willowburn,” he said.

"We had one draw with Willowburn this year and are hoping to build on that.”

The Wolves have all players available other than goalie Tish Kendall, who is a boarder at The Scots PGC College and has state trials in rugby sevens.

Kane was undecided about who to play in goal.

"We have three options and all of them have the ability to do a top job,” he said.

"Training has been excellent this week and we finished the Thursday night session with pizza. The girls are excited and a bit nervous about the game.”

Kane said Willowburn was particularly strong in midfield and at the back.

"We are confident we can cause problems to the defending premiers.”
