Woman caught in drug sting

A WARWICK woman who was caught up in a covert police operation targeting drug traffickers says she has given up drugs since her arrest.

Patricia Leanne Eames was busted when she sent drug-related text messages and made phone calls to the targets of the drug sting back in March.

Police intercepted the communication, which showed Eames requesting drugs in specific amounts from another person.

The texts and calls revealed the mother-of-one bought a total of 21g of marijuana over a period of 17 days.

The 34-year-old's solicitor yesterday told the court his client was using the drug to treat a number of health issues.

He added that since her arrest, "the penny has dropped" and Eames has given up the use of marijuana and has returned to legal medications.

Magistrate Graham Lee conceded Eames was not the intended target of the covert operation and encouraged her to continue using only legal medications.

The Warwick woman was ordered to undergo a drug diversion program and no conviction was recorded against her.
